I'll take a break from insulting Oilers management to discuss Matt Cooke.
Game 3 tonight between the Colorado Avalanche and Minnesota Wild. The Avs have owned the series so far. Something was needed to turn the tide. Or in the case of Matt Cooke, turd the tide.
A knee. Intentional. No one watching the game could have missed seeing it. It's been a while since we've seen such a Matt Cooke-type play. Luckily, he saved something special just for us, just for the playoffs. Barrie's season is over.
Here's what sucks:
Cooke will get a suspension. Fine. But this will be the turning point of the series. You watch. Even if the Avs win tonight in OT, the series winner has been determined. The Wild have got this. The Avalanche will be playing scared now.
And that's what sucks about the modern NHL.
You could be Brent Seabrook mangling David Backes behind the net. You could be Matt Cooke intentionally taking the knee out from the Avs best puck-moving defenseman's. Goonery is rewarded in the NHL. The team that breaks the most bones wins. Unless you are the Bruins or Canucks, who can dive their way to victory. But for most teams, skill is secondary to their ability to injure.
Cooke makes me sick, like Strawberry Quick.
I want to see you try that against Ryan Getzlaf.
He came to get down. He came to get down.
