Most NHL draftniks are looking at the top of the board and seeing this:
1. Florida: D Aaron Ekblad
2. Buffalo: C Sam Reinhart
but Sam Bennett is getting lots of love these days and may go as high as #1 overall. Why?
There's a lot of talent there, and at even strength Bennett's numbers compare with anyone in the draft.
If that happens, the draft opens up in a big way. The Oilers, picking third, may want to draft Leon Draisaitl for his skill and size. Why?
If the choice comes down to Draisaitl versus Sam Reinhart at number three overall, that might be a difficult decision for the Oilers. Whereas Bennett's skills boast a wider range, Reinhart has even-strength and power play ability.
If the Edmonton Oilers step to the podium, and Sam Reinhart is available, do they pass on him, knowing he could punish them as a Calgary Flame for 15 years?
I don't think they can.
