Leading up to the trade deadline 2014, the only busy GM is Craig MacTavish. The other 29 men (so far) have been all hat and no cattle.
That should change this week. Bob McKenzie reports the Kings are interested in Sam Gagner, and tsn reports Ottawa is interested in a Moulson.
Elliotte Friedman: I wouldn't be surprised if interest in fellow Stars forward Ray Whitney picks up after the Olympic break because it sounds like potential landing spots want to use him like Anaheim uses Teemu Selanne. Maybe Whitney doesn't play every remaining game in the regular season, sitting the occasional back-to-back. That way, he can rest a little before the playoffs, when you generally get more days off.
That seems to be the story all over the league—AFTER the Olympics, in a very short window—we should see some deals. I think there will be teams (Montreal, Detroit, Vancouver) who make deals this week because they are more desperate than the rest.
Kevin Allen is worth a follow this week, he often breaks stories out of American cities. Arthur Staple is also worth following, he has an update this morning on Tomas Vanek turning down a substantial offer from the Islanders.
Puckrant is going to be all over the deadline, I'll be updating deals as they come on the LDWLT show on TSN 1260 and offering analysis here, there and everywhere. For me, the draft and trade deadline are the most fun times of the year to be a fan. If your team has a legit chance at Stanley, chances are you'll see some great additions to your team.
For the rest of us, it'll be time to say goodbye to old friends. A busy week ahead? Hope so!
